Recently i came to know of one tool in the market – NEXUS which can access multiple databases.
According to the tools website the main features are as below:
1.Query Teradata, Oracle, DB2, UDB, Netezza, DATAllegro, Greenplum, SQL Server, and any generic ODBC system at the same time!
2.With “Edit Data in Place” users can Update, Insert, or Delete tables without writing a line of SQL.
3.The SmartCompress Add-On will compress up to 30% of your warehouse!
4.Nexus provides a load utility wizard that builds your BTEQ, FASTLOAD, MULTILOAD, and TPump load scripts in seconds automatically.
5.SmartReplica allows you to create systems and move data between them.
6.Batch Schedule Queries, Replications, Compressions, Comparisons, and Scripts to run at your convenience.
7.Compare and move objects between systems.
8.Nexus performs smart DBA functions like creating tables and objects with the click of a button.
9.Manipulate an answer set after the query has returned.
For example, simply click and drag column headers to group results by desired columns

At my places the trial version of NEXUS is being used by ad-hoc users from Datawarehouse and Stock Record System to query TDPM-Teradata and Netezza.
In our environment where data is staggered across various systems (different databases/file-systems) this tool is helping adhoc users to a great extent.
Personally it was very exciting to use the tool to access teradata as well as Netezza from the same tool. I will try accessing the DB2 database from the tool if i can. The feel of the tool was no different from SQL Assistant (Just the left panel here has the list of available databases)
